Surfing in
San Juan del Sur
The main surf season is April to October. Consistent large southern swells and light offshore winds are typical during this season. Waves can be bigger than six feet and appropriate for experienced surfers.
December to April, waves are smaller and generally chest high which is ideal for beginner surfers looking to improve their skills.
Playa Maderas is located north of San Juan del Sur. It is only about 10 kilometers from town though a 10-20 minute drive depending on road conditions, is a dirt road in the dry season and a muddy road in the rainy season.
Playa Maderas is famous for its constant waves all year round, also known for for the good quality waves and perfect conditions for all Surf Tournaments.

Playa Remanso
A beautiful bay south of San Juan del Sur about 8 miles away, only a 15 minutes drive. The beach is one of the best beaches to start your first steps in surfing, having perfect waves for a learning start.
Since it is a beach break, without strong marine currents, which make it the best place for beginners.
Playa Hermosa is a secluded, light sand beach located approximately 12 km south of the very popular fishing town of San Juan Del Sur in the Rivas province of Nicaragua.
World famous for its outstanding surf, it is a must visit for any surfer who is looking to catch some fun, punchy and uncrowded waves. Playa Hermosa is one of the largest in the area with many different break points perfect for all different levels of surfers.

Playa Yankee
Playa Yankee. The furthest break from San Juan del Sur town and the one for the more advanced surfer is PlayaYankee. It’s about a 25 minute drive South to get to this private community.
The waves are best at mid to high tide and are usually chest high to a little overhead with well-defined peaks. Playa Yankee is famous among locals because pf the espectacualr brean also called Nica Pipe.
